I know that you all back east are getting clobbered but we haven't had any since Thanksgiving here.
Well it's coming down pretty good today - and expecting to keep up for at least a week. Donner Pass will be getting a foot or two every one of those days. I'll be traveling to California Monday afternoon for the Christmas Week - Should be an exciting trek...

We got about 6 to 8 inches of snow yesterday. People were wrecking all over the place. I had no trouble ofcourse.

Ha! I was actually going to ask ya if it was actually getting there or just virga. It's blowing into here tonight and will be a mix in the valley through Tuesday, but the benches* I'm hoping will get clobbered!
*I'm up on the benches, which is the ancient Lake Bonneville shoreline, a neat feature where the lake wore a shelf in the sides of the mountain range around here, which is great for little neighborhoods to perch on and get a great view of the valley... but storms blow in and it'll rain down in the valley, but we'll get a clobbered with snow - like I'm hoping for!

Land Rover Trek 194 – Finding Rocky – or – Just playing in the snow north of Hazen – or – Just a kid again – 17 December 2010
There was about an inch of snow on the ground when I went to Chukars for breakfast. There was about two inches and it was coming down when I came out. I headed for home to throw some maps and the camera in the truck. There was about three inches on the ground when I headed north from Hazen.
The road under the snow is very rough from being torn up by the pole maintenance guys when they replaced poles two months ago. The snow cushions it a little, but - - - I took a few scenic photos on the way to the dry lake but there wasn’t much to see except for the truck and the snow as it was coming down and blocking the distance.
When I was halfway across the east-west road I decided to take a trail south that on the map shows it running across the flats, skirting some sand dunes and then following a ravine up towards “Rocky” the high point of the Hot Springs Range. The trail is crossing mostly sand but the traction is pretty good with for inches of snow on top of it.
The trail seemed to disappear at the dunes so I got out and hiked to the far side of the dunes looking for the continuation of the trail. I found the trail about an eighth mile away and then hiked it back to the truck. It appeared to be doable but it’ll be better another time when I have the security of another vehicle along.
I continued on to Brady’s Hot Springs and then came back to Fernley via the highway.
- - - - - - - -
I saved the original photos at about 100K apiece - so we'll see if this forum will be able to show the photos at about five at a time

Aaaaaahhhhh my favorite time of year... when I look out the window and see white... when every weekend is spent skiing... when they actually play "Let It Snow" on the radio... this is the best time of year. I wish I could have an Endless Winter (Warren Miller reference...).

We got 3' in 48 hours. Got another 1.5' in the next week. Shut down our city for 2 days to get the snow off the roads and sidewalks. Here is the picture of the back of my F-150 when I went out one morning.
